PREPARATION - DESIGNING A PEDESTAL
Because of the difference in height between the old and the new cabinets, a pedestal is designed that elevates the replacement fixtures. A table saw, electric planer, skill saw, electric drill, tape measure, and bar clamps (tools) are used to build the pedestal. An original diagram is created that allows trainees to follow written instructions and to lay out the cabinets in the proper configuration. |
REMOVE EXISTING FIXTURES
In order to install new cabinet fixtures, removal of the existing cabinets is required. Pry bars, hammers, and a cordless screwdriver are used in this process (tools). Approximate Time 3 hrs (2 Trainees)

EXAMINE JOB AREA
The work area should be checked for any possible problems that may occur in the future, such as a change in floor elevation or holes in the concrete. Approximate Time 15 mins.
|
REMOVE EXISTING CONCRETE ANCHORS
Concrete anchors or other items discovered during the process of examining the job area must be removed. Existing concrete anchors have to be removed because they are intrusive on the project and can prevent the new cabinets from sitting level. Approximate Time: 20 mins. |

CLEAN WORK AREA
The work area is prepared by ensuring that all debris is removed. A clean work area is essential for safety purposes and for allowing workers the ability to snap chalk lines for fixture placement. Approximate Time: 15 mins. |
TRIAL INSTALLATION OF PEDESTAL
A trial installation of the pedestal components is used for the purpose of checking the consistency of floor elevation. Approximate Time: 30 mins.

ASSEMBLY OF PEDESTAL
The pedestal is assembled in sections. Bar clamps and a cordless screw gun are used for this portion of the project. Approximate Time: 60 mins.
|
ANCHORING PEDESTAL
Once the sections of the pedestal have been assembled, concrete
anchors are used to attach the pedestal to the concrete floor.
Approximate Time: 30 mins

TRANSFERRING OF STUD POSITION A stud finder is used to find the stud within the wall. Once the stud
is located, a 2 ft. level is used to transfer the stud location onto the
inside of the new fixture.
Approximate Time: 15 mins

ANCHORING FIRST CABINET TO WALL After the stud location is found and transferred to the fixture, the
first cabinet is anchored to the wall.
Approximate Time: 30 mins

CHECK FLOOR ELEVATION The elevation of the concrete floor was checked before the next cabinet
was installed. This process was accomplished by using a 6 foot level
across the top edge of the pedestal.
Approximate Time: 30 mins
|
USING CEDAR SHIMS TO RAISE PEDESTAL
Any imperfections found in the pedestal are corrected by using cedar shims to raise the elevation. Approximate Time: 60 mins

ALIGNING CABINETS It is important to align all of the cabinets and ensure they are straight
before clamping them together.
Approximate Time: 90 mins
|
CHECK CABINET CONNECTIONS After cabinets are installed, all connections are checked for imperfections
and level height consistency.
Approximate Time: 30 mins
